I’ve seen at least 50 amazing photo opportunities I didn’t have time/camera battery to take. I’d love to spend a whole couple of days in the African History museum. I want to see fall-colored bonsai, and everything snowy and all the pools iced over like at the inauguration.

All the extra-curricular activities really help you out in this case. Some of the universities you listed are, indeed, reaches, specifically The Cooper Union (to which I have also applied, but for their School of Architecture), Yale, Columbia, and Cornell. They are all excellent universities, however.

One thing that impressed me is your art. I've been browsing your Deviant Art gallery and you have some seriously good drawings in there. I would say work on a few more pieces on other mediums if you can to show variety. You've already shown variety in style by drawing realistic still-life's and cartoon-y characters. Even tossing in a sculpture if you're into that stuff will help immensely.

I personally think the quality of your work will carry you through the application processes. I've seen a lot of 'artists' who stick to drawing Japanese characters with no originality get into art schools. At least you show a mastery in translating what you see into paper.

If you're going to present your portfolio in person, make sure it's high-quality and looks professional. You can print your works in matte or glossy paper, but make sure the quality is excellent in the prints and in the portfolio.

Also, and this depends entirely on the university's specific requirements: make sure you have enough works that show variation and ability to work with different media! 5 works usually isn't enough. Some ask for about 10 works, others more, others less.
